What-is-the-most-surprising-and-out-of-nowhere-piece-of-scientific-technology-that-we-thought-was-impossible.

Elon Musk’s first test subject, Gertrude, the pig, has a coin-sized computer chip implanted in her brain as a step towards curing human diseases such as Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, Insomnia, Depression, paralysis and addiction.

The wires embedded into the coin can detect when neurons are firing, or emit their own electrical signals to make the neurons fire. The vision is to repair damage, or allow damage to the brain’s circuit to be bypassed, altered, strengthened or even repressed. This would allow humans to integrate computers into their brains in the distant future.

Like a Fitbit in your skull with tiny wires.

Currently, the device is restricted to the surface of the brain where movement, vision and hearing take place.[1]

The goal does seem overly ambitious with the brain being an incredibly complex and mysterious organ. However, I do commend Elon for his ideas, and I’m excited to see what’s to come!
