United Tests SITA Biometric Technology for Domestic Flights – Business Travel News

United Airlines is testing a low-touch biometric experience for domestic flights out of San Francisco International Airport.

The carrier is using SITA’s Smart Path, with which passengers can link their driver’s license to their facial biometric when they check in and pass through bag drop, security and boarding with a face scan. SITA reported that more than half of international flights out of SFO were boarded using biometrics last year, but the company claims United’s trial is the first test covering check-in to boarding on domestic flights in the United States.

Several airports around the world are using SITA Smart Path technology, including Miami, Athens, Doha, Orlando and Beijing Capital International.
